I’ve always said that a game is not a game unless it has audio. Adding sound and music to a game is one of the most exciting parts of game development for me. I can spend months developing the basics of the game in absolute silence, then as soon as the audio goes in, the game suddenly becomes a GAME. For me, sound and music pumps life into the game giving it a personality, not to mention important audible feedback.
I have come across the following sound and music collections / providers:
- New Grounds (music)
- Audio Jungle (Music)
- Dig CC Mixer (music)
- Jewel beat (music)
- Sample Swap (music)
- Jamendo (music)
- nosoapradio.us (music)
- Sound MATTER (sound effects)
- Free SFX (sound effects)
- Free Sound (sound effects)
- SoundJay (sound effects)
Make sure that you read the license of any and all audio that you use in any of your products, marketing materials and web sites. Different licenses grant you different usage rights, make sure that you are clear on them. if in doubt contact the audio provider to find out.
